We believe access to mental healthcare is
a fundamental right, so we break down financial barriers
and improve access to quality mental health services
for all.
FundaMental Health is 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on a mission to improve access to mental healthcare.
We offer both financial assistance and care coordination to individuals in need, driven by our belief that improving mental health will enhance the lives and communities around us. Starting in our hometown of San Diego, we aim to expand our programs to Los Angeles and beyond as we continue to grow.
For many people, mental health support is the first step in opening the door to care. But lasting well-being often requires more than one step. Our Bridge to Care program takes that next step in supporting all layers of a person’s wellbeing. Learn more about our Enhanced Care Management (ECM) program here.
Our Values
Inclusivity
Mental and behavioral illness does not discriminate, and neither do we. Our offerings are inclusive to all who need support for their health, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.
Personalization
Living with mental and behavioral illness is hard enough. We customize care around each Participant’s unique journey and streamline the funding, treatment placement, and care coordination processes.
Quality
Quality makes all the difference in a successful outcome. We believe connecting those in need with high-quality care is critical to their mental and behavioral health journey.

Why fundamental health
It took me a few years, and a whole lot of group therapy, to realize just how many people of all shapes and sizes are struggling with their mental health – it was clear, mental illness does not discriminate. And yet, there are clear disparities on who can access quality mental health care. The driving force behind FundaMental Health is aligning my work with my values, the belief that everyone deserves equal access to quality mental health care, and improving access will greatly impact our community.

I’m passionate about building sustainable systems that remove barriers and ensure anyone seeking mental health support can find it when they need it most. I’m honored to lead an organization expanding access throughout California, making mental healthcare a fundamental right, not a privilege.

Michael Abad

Program Support Specialist, Foundation of Care
professional background
Michael graduated from the University of the Pacific with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and completed a Post-Baccalaureate Program in Psychology at UC Irvine. Prior to joining FundaMental Health, he worked as a behavioral interventionist providing behavior therapy to autistic children. Why fundamental health
Mental health has been a continuous journey for me since high school. College was a particularly challenging period, ultimately leading me to transition from biology to psychology. Through studying psychology, I began to better understand myself and saw meaningful improvements in my mental health. However, the most significant change occurred when I began seeing a psychiatrist.
I am fortunate to have insurance coverage and a financially supportive family — resources that are not available to everyone. When I learned about Wyatt’s mission, I immediately knew FundaMental Health was the right place for me. I am passionate about helping connect underserved communities with accessible, high-quality mental health care.

Why fundamental health
Like many people, I’ve experienced seasons where my own mental health felt difficult to navigate. I’ve also watched family members and close friends face their own struggles, and through those experiences, the importance of access to care and support became deeply personal to me. Being part of a mission-driven organization and a team that genuinely cares about one another and the impact we make is something I’m truly grateful for. Adam Blejski is a relational entrepreneur, strategic visionary, and sales and operations leader with a proven track record across industries including life sciences, healthcare intelligence, SaaS, ag-tech, and hospitality. As the operations and business development leader of Symbiotic Systems, a San Diego-based agriculture technology firm, Adam drives innovation in ag-tech. Before this role, he co-founded Parallel 6, a decentralized clinical trial SaaS platform, leading it to a 12X ROI acquisition by PRA Health Sciences in under two years. He later helped grow the platform’s revenue to $100M, with further innovations in AI and automation after PRA was acquired by ICON PLC. Adam also led revenue growth at Uline, Entertainment Cruises, and The Field Museum, and was an intern who contributed to the rapid growth of Support Net, which was acquired for $1B in 1999.
Why fundamental health
Joining the board offers me the opportunity to drive meaningful, systems-level change by expanding equitable access to mental healthcare for adults and youth who need it most. My expertise can help dismantle long standing barriers and ensure underserved communities receive high-quality, coordinated care in a truly supportive environment.
Associate Director, Development & Operations
Kate Juliane Marte

Associate Director, Development & Operations
professional background
Kate has built her career in startup and early-stage environments, developing strong skills in operations, systems management, and relationship-driven work. Her background spans customer success, sales, and administrative roles, shaping a practical, people-centered approach to problem-solving and execution.
At FundaMental Health, Kate serves as Associate Director of Development & Operations. She supports fundraising and development efforts, manages internal systems and documentation, and oversees operational processes that help translate organizational goals into daily execution. Having started as an Administrative Assistant, Kate has grown alongside the organization and continues to take on expanded responsibility as the nonprofit scales.
Why fundamental health
From the start, it was clear that this organization’s team was drawn together not just by work, but by purpose. The working environment here is where people can fully show up without fear of stigma, and where vulnerability is met with understanding rather than judgment. That culture has been a key part of my growth, both professionally and personally.
Mental health has also shaped my life in very real ways. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety while I was still in school, and those challenges ultimately led me to leave before graduating. With the support I had, I was able to begin working, build my career step by step, and reclaim a sense of confidence and direction. That journey taught me that progress is not linear, and that access to support can make all the difference.
When I applied to FundaMental Health, I chose to be open about my own mental health journey because the mission resonated deeply with me. I saw a team actively working to remove the very barriers I once faced. Being part of an organization that believes mental healthcare should be accessible, compassionate, and stigma-free is both grounding and motivating. I’m proud to contribute to work that not only expands access to care, but also creates a workplace where people are supported as whole humans.

professional background

Why fundamental health
As a parent of a child with a neurodevelopmental disorder, I experienced firsthand how difficult it is to find accessible, professional mental health care. Even with financial means, our family faced significant challenges navigating the system.
That experience revealed a profound truth: if it was this hard for us, it is an impossible barrier for countless others. This is why our mission at FundaMental health resonates so deeply with me. We directly address the very obstacles I faced by providing financial assistance and simplifying the path to care through dedicated coordination.
Working here allows me to translate personal understanding into meaningful action. Contributing to a team that removes these critical barriers, and builds a more supportive community, is what brings me purpose.

Why fundamental health
Treated and untreated mental health impacts us all. After I lost my mother at 16, I was drowning in grief but in deep denial of its impacts. Because I was still a straight-A student, almost everyone around me thought I was handling it remarkably, but inside, I was barely hanging on. As a college student, I knew I needed help, but I could not afford it or even find a provider. I finally started therapy nearly a decade afterwards, and I realized how much time I lost by not finding treatment that worked for me. Mental health treatment helped me to regain my sense of self, find balance, and work through trauma instead of running from it. FundaMental Health fills in the gaps I fell through. I am proud to be championing FundaMental Health’s programs and hope that through their work, I can help others find their way again.
